Grande Prairie is a vibrant, exciting city that combines an energetic economy, an excellent quality of life and, with its location in the Mighty Peace Country, a setting that is second to none.
Our economy continues to prosper, thanks to a strong foundation based on oil and gas, forestry, agriculture, our position as a regional shopping centre, and as a general hub for commerce. Grande Prairie is also a centre for government, post-secondary education and public sector agencies.
More exciting developments addressing the needs of all sectors are on the horizon.
Within the next few years, we will open Hearthstone Manor, an affordable housing complex, a new library/gallery building, and an aquatics and wellness multiplex.
It is only fitting that Grande Prairie has recently surpassed the 50,000 population mark. It’s our 50th anniversary as a city in 2008 and we welcome former residents and newcomers alike to join in the festivities.
I am proud to have been raised in Grande Prairie. Many people have come for a month to work and now make it their home.
